American Express Platinum
If you know anything about credit cards, you will know that there are a lot of credit cards to compare. Though many of them are similar, they do have their differences and it’s important to take these into account when making your selection. The American Express Platinum is a popular option and this is largely due to its cashback offerings and earning potential. It’s not the ideal credit card if you are hoping to transfer a balance but it does offer a good APR, cashback and impressive purchase rates.
Who Can Apply For An American Express Platinum Credit Card?
As is the case when you sign up to any credit card, you need to be approved and this is dependent on whether or not you meet the requirements. In order to be approved for a American Express Platinum credit card, you must be a UK resident and over the age of 18. You will also need to have a good credit score and a good credit history, as well as an income that American Express Platinum deems acceptable. Those with bad credit may be better suited to credit cards for bad credit, of which there are many, as the American Express Platinum credit card is aimed at those with a good credit score.
What Does The American Express Platinum Credit Card Offer?
- With the American Express Platinum credit card, you will receive an APR of 22.9%. This is fairly average when compared to other similar credit cards aimed at people with good credit scores and it’s not too different from other major credit card providers.
- When you make a purchase with the American Express Platinum, you will do so with a rate of 22.9% P.A. variable. Again, this is close to what a number of other similar companies offer. However, there are no introductory offers and zero interest periods with the American Express Platinum.
- Whereas a lot of credit card companies offer balance transfers as a key service, American Express Platinum does not. A balance transfer with the American Express Platinum credit card is only available on request and at the discretion of Amex, which means that a balance transfer is not guaranteed.
- You can get 5% cashback, up to £100, in your first three months of American Express Platinum card membership. After the first three months, you can earn up to 1%. This is dependent on how much you spend using the card, but does make using the card worthwhile.
There are a lot of balance transfer credit cards out there, but don’t rule the American Express Platinum card out simply because balance transfers are not immediately an option. If you do need to transfer a balance using the American Express Platinum card, you can put in a request to do so. However, it’s important to note that approval is not guaranteed and all balance transfers are given at the discretion of Amex.
